SUCCESS!
We finally connected with the recipient of the postcard that we picked up from the Floreana mailbox. They are a busy Atlanta family who, like us, have been on the go for much of this summer. In early July we were all in town, so I made arrangements to drop off the postcard. As it turns out, the family received TWO postcards from the Floreana mailbox! They received the postcard that I delivered (addressed to their elder daughter), as well as a postcard that was addressed to their younger daughter. Their younger daughter's postcard was delivered via the USPS, rather than in person. Yes, someone "cheated" and picked up a postcard from Floreana and then put a stamp on it and sent it via regular mail --- but we noticed it was mailed from California, so perhaps whoever agreed to deliver it picked up a card with a Georgia address by accident....?
Anyway, I had a delightful time meeting both of these young ladies and answering their questions about our trip to the Galapagos. Who knows? Maybe one day they will visit the Galapagos themselves, and make a delivery from the Floreana mailbox. We hope so!
Incidentally, we mailed a postcard from Floreana, but it has not yet been delivered. It was sent to the congregation of the small church that we attend near our vacation home in the mountains of western North Carolina. Since it is a fairly remote location, we're betting it will be quite a while before it is delivered - if ever!
